Freya - disability support worker

Freya - disability support worker

Freya joined the care and support sector in search for a job where she can build amazing relationships, enjoy rewarding and meaningful work, and feel proud of what she’s achieved on a daily basis.

Male voiceover:

74, take 1.

Freya:

I responded to an ad that she put in my local paper describing herself and the position, and I was really nervous, 'cause I had no experience, but my friends assured me,

"No, just go along, just, you know, do your best."

"She might take a chance on you." (LAUGHS)

Which she did! (LAUGHS)

Michelle:

Yeah.

Freya:

Have I got the right foot? Yep.

Michelle:

Yeah.

Freya:

Will it go on? (LAUGHS)

Wow. Michelle, they're so you. (LAUGHS)

For me, what I get out of this work is that I get to genuinely care.

Which means a lot to me, and I hope it means a lot to Michelle.

OK, so you want me to try these on?

These my work shoes, are they?

So you don't lose me?

I wanted something that was rewarding and that had meaning, that I could go home at the end of the day and feel proud of what I'd achieved, and I get that and more.

Not with what I'm wearing!

Thanks for the fashion advice, Miss Michelle.

It truly is a job that you don't even, sort of, notice you're doing.

It's like, yeah, you get paid for it, but you get paid to care, and if that comes naturally to you, then you'll never feel like you're doing a day's work ever.

And you get to build an amazing relationship with someone.

Yeah, I just love her to bits.

She surprises me every day that I get to spend time with her.

My best friend is my boss.

I mean, who gets to say that?

Male voiceover:

And look up and then give us a big smile.

And cut.
