Mandy moved from banking into the care and support sector because she wanted a job where she could be of service to people. She explains why she enjoys working in aged care and how it has changed her life.
Male voiceover:
Mark it.
Mandy:
I was previously in the banking sector, and I chose to move to the aged care sector because I wanted to be of service and of a benefit to someone.
Elizabeth:
Hi there. Another face! (LAUGHS)
Female voiceover:
Yeah.
I'll be doing your make-up.
Elizabeth:
Trying to make me pretty.
Mandy:
I rememberthe first day I met Elizabeth.
She liked things in a particular order.
Elizabeth:
You didn't dry that, did you?
Mandy:
Dry it? No, I didn't. (CHUCKLES)
Her place was very clean, and I thought,
"What do you need me for?"
But it wasn't just about that in the end.
I was also here for companionship.
Are you ready to go outside?
Elizabeth:
Yeah.
Mandy:
Are you gonna be warm enough?
Big smile.
Teeth.
The camera loves you.
She asks a lot about my life, um, about my kids, about my relationships,
and gives me advice.
So it's kind of nice to get a different perspective from her.
This one's pretty, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth:
Yeah.
That's lovely.
Mandy:
This one new?
That's beautiful.
Elizabeth:
What is it?
Mandy:
I love the colour.
For me, it's not work. I'm coming to visit a friend.
She's very witty.
She's very caring, very giving.
Very quick.
She's intelligent.
People forget that you've lived a life.
They forget that, you know, they're someone's grandmother,
they were once a wife, um, a sister, a friend.
And that's why I do it. I just.....um, you know, believe that their life still has to be celebrated.
