Mina的故事

人們往往錯誤地以為,養老護理的工作只是照顧他人而已;事實上,護理人員也能從中享受豐盛的收穫。

聽聽養老護理員Mina怎麼說。

「老人家一直讓我獲益良多 – 他們的人生經歷、他們的故事⋯⋯」她說。

「即便是新來的素未謀面的長者,他們的故事也很打動我,我學到了許多。」

「即便只是生活技能,例如怎樣炮製出最美味的雞蛋!」

Mina為長者提供居家協助,其服務對象各種各樣,而且全部都患有某種程度的癡呆症。

Mina修讀完《社區服務四級證書》後,自2020年起從事養老護理行業,並在維州新冠疫情(COVID-19)封城期間提供護理與支援服務,幫助緩解迫切的社會需求。此時入行無疑要腳踏荊棘,但Mina從未懷疑過自己的選擇。

「我熱愛這份工作!我絕不會離開這個職業!」她說。

與眾多投身護理與支援行業的人士一樣,Mina很難說清楚何謂「正常的」一天。

「幫人吃藥、洗澡、做飯,都有可能⋯⋯」Mina說。

「但有很大一部分工作是問情況。與對方聊聊天,確保他/她沒有大礙。」她說。

Mina特別看重的是要讓老人家高興。她說,自己祖母在新冠疫情(COVID-19)期間去世了,這是她決定投身養老護理工作的巨大動因。由於無法回中國探親,參加不了追悼會,Mina陷入了深思,老無所依是什麼境況。

「想到那些獨居老人,我就立定決心要投身這個行業。你讓他們開心,他們也很開心看見你。我就彷彿是他們身邊的VIP。」

「我在中國時由嫲嫲帶大,在我三、四歲時,她就是我的榜樣。我知道敬老護老的重要意義。」

「要做好這份工作,你必須有熱情,懂得人間冷暖,還要真心關愛他人。」Mina說。

Mina確信,只要有耐性和熱情,誰都能做好養老護理工作,而且你所需要的技能就來自生活。對她而言,生兒育女的經歷和文化背景造就了她的能力。

「當媽媽確實對我幫助很大:你會變得有耐性。」Mina說。

「外國人的身份也對我有益處,這讓我得以體恤各種各樣的人。有一位長者,我照顧她三、四個月了。她與我一樣,並非在澳大利亞出生,但是在這裡生活了很長時間。」Mina說。

「她也是亞洲人,但來自斯里蘭卡(Sri Lanka),所以我們用英語交流。然而我們卻有某些相似的經歷。我們的思維方式、人生價值觀……我跟她交流很輕鬆。」
